I have been a nanny for over 5 years now, and that means I’ve applied diaper cream with my fingers (yuck!) probably hundreds of times. It’s one thing I’ve always hated because the cream would get stuck under my finger nails and I had to spend time washing it out after each diaper change that required cream. When you’re caring for little ones, you don’t have time to spend a couple minutes getting diaper cream out from under your nails! Not to mention, it’s unsanitary as well.

Enter BabyBum Diaper Cream Brush. I recently started working for a new family, and one of the first things the mother introduced me to was this amazing little invention. Not sure why it’s called a brush as it is basically a small silicone spatula, but it’s AMAZING. There is one at each diaper changing station in the house and diaper cream under the fingernails is now a thing of the past (YAY!). It’s sanitary and very simple to use/clean. Also, diaper cream is not wasted once you get the hang of how little/much you need to apply to the brush tip for each diaper rash situation. I love it so much that I just purchased one for my best friend who is expecting a baby. This is definitely going to be a staple in my baby shower kits from now on!

Do yourself (and every mother of babies and toddlers/expectant mothers you know) a favor and buy this! Heck, buy the two-pack cause chances are you’ll want an extra for travel or an additional diaper changing station. You’re welcome!

For the most part what you see is what you get with the BabyBum Diaper Cream Brush. Some of the rash creams that we have used leave a residue and a smell on my finger even after washing and dries my finger out, so its nice that I won’t have to worry about that with this brush. It’s convenient to not have to get diaper cream on my finger and under my nails and I won’t lie, it’s nice not having to touch a bum too. I love my baby and I’ve been well initiated into the mom club by being pooped, peed, and puked on. I’m okay with it. It’s true when they say that it’s not as bad when it’s your own baby but still, I don’t feel overly clean swabbing my finger over my baby’s bum and likely getting residual fecal matter on my finger. I think the tool would work best with creams in tubes for sanitary purposes since it is not feasible to wash and sanitize the tool after each use. It gets wiped off but I’m sure it still has “stuff” on it, which would get redipped into a tub of cream. It’s probably not too big of a deal since that cream is used for her only but now I can’t use the tub of aquaphor on her face or any other part of her body if needed. I knew that much of it going into the purchase but I would so love some way to sanitized it between uses. Maybe with an ultraviolet light, like my toothbrush head (hey if I’m going to dream it might as well be big, right?). I worry about using the brush on my little girl’s “lady parts” if it hasn’t been sanitized since the last time it was used on her bum. Major design flaw for me but again I had already thought that out prior to purchase. Other reviewers have complained that this tool doesn’t work well with thicker pastes. I can’t add my input there since the thickest cream I have worked with is aquaphor. The aquaphor works great with the tool. I am able to scoop it out of the tub and haven’t had any issues with the brush being too flexible and it spreads easily on my baby’s little bum. The suction cup at the end doesn’t seem to work extremely well on mine, I’m not sure if mine has a flaw or if they are all like that. It doesn’t suction on to most of the surfaces that are near my changing table so I suction mine to the lid of the aquaphor tub. It’s still not a tight sturdy suction but I don’t mess around with the tub once we are done and it hasn’t fallen yet. All in all its a good little tool and does what it is advertised for. I had to reduce one star though because in my opinion it is overpriced, the suction doesn’t work well (at least on mine), and even though I knew it before going into the purchase, I still feel it is a major design flaw since it’s not completely sanitary.
