These things saved my sanity, and my daddy heart,
No other solution has helped us more than this product. We went from a face covered in scratches and pus, to an infant with just a red rosy santa face. Every once in awhile he breaks out, but for the four weeks it’s been near heaven. We’ve gone from almost constant fussing and screaming to a few hours of peace every day. And only a few disturbances in the night, where before it was almost every 30 minutes.
I mean, we tried swaddling him in sleepsacks (too strong for them, gets right out). I can’t have my child restrained all day long like a burrito. a dozen kinds of mittens, socks, you name it, we tried it,. If we have mittens, we lost them. He pulls them off, or the velcro scratches his face. If we take them off when he’s being good, then he scratches and we have to run and fight to get mittens off. It’s super inconvenient. Whenever he scratches you are bound to not be near the mittens you need.
This is the only thing that works consistently. If we swaddle him to sleep and he gets his hands out, these don’t come off like mittens while he is moving. If we feel he is getting frustrated and needs some touch time, then we don’t have to hunt and fight to put mittens on. We just wrap these back around his hands. They don’t fall off, they can’t get lost easily. They do well being cleaned, and they don’t smell yet from his blood and pus (unlike other mittens we’ve tried).
My only gripe is the weather. Eczema can sometimes be worsened by heat. These things bake your child alive. They are best for spring/late fall weather. If you have an older child, these are going to be way too hot to wear outside in the summer, unless you live in the North Pole with Santa.
So, my request to scratchmenot is to offer a range of cloth options for the shoulders and sleeves (keep the mittens the same). I’ll be needing thicker ones come winter, but now I need more breathable ones now that it is summer.
