N’Ice Caps TM girls soft sherpa lined micro fleece pilot hat and mitten set. Very soft and comfortable. Has velcro chin strap on hat, hanging tassel. Elastic on mitten wrist. Great fit. 5 colors. Pink, fuchsia, turquoise, light purple, pink/multi color tye dye print velboa. 4 sizes. One size fits 3-6 months, one size fits 6-18 months, one size fits 2-3yrs, one size fits 4-7yrs. For sizes 3-6 months and 6-18 months, the mittens do not have thumbs. For larger sizes 2-3yrs and 4-7yrs, the mittens have thumbs. Tested and approved as per CPSIA standards.

    Bought both the pink & blue. Hats & mittens are super soft and seem well made. I found the sizing to be a little small, so you may want to go up a size. The velcro chin strap is handy and provides a little more warmth over the ears and around the face. I like these hats, as everything at the mall stores had crazy looking designs. I would say these are good hats & mittens for cool/above freezing weather. For freezing cold & windy conditions, you may want something more substantial.

    I tried this set on my 15 month old when the set arrived. The fit of the set is perfect to last her just this winter season, so the set may run a little small (my toddler is slightly petite). The purple fleece color is cute, and the design seems like it would keep her warm down to the mid-30’s, if she isn’t playing in the snow at the time.

    When I took the hat off my toddler’s head after trying it on her when it arrived, though, there was an absolutely vile chemical odor left on her head. It took wiping her down with three different clean cloths to remove the smell altogether. I checked the inside of the hat and realized the hat absolutely reeks of some intense synthetic chemical, maybe flame retardant, something I hadn’t noticed when I eagerly pulled it out of the package and tried it on her. The package also has the same stench.

    I’m going to try washing the set a couple times to see whether the odor disappears completely, and will return the set if it doesn’t. The scent is so strong that the hat still stinks a couple days later, and I can detect it when I pass by where I left it on our dining room table. Other than that big glitch, cute set.

    Update: The odor disappeared with a wash, and the hat was a perfect fit for this past winter. The mittens were actually a bit big relative to the hat, we found (hat was perfect, mittens ran big), but overall a good set, value, and quality. Increased rating to four stars.
