Do you have a newborn baby at home? Are you having trouble washing and removing stains from their clothes? If yes, you are not alone because there are thousands of neophyte mothers are out there who experienced the same problem like you do.
Being a housewife and a mother is not that easy because aside from caring for your baby, preparing meals for the family, tending the needs of your husband, it is also your duty to wash clothes and to make it a point to have them clean and presentable always.
Because babies are active individuals, it is a common to find messy and stained clothes by the end of the day. To remove these stains need lot of patience, skills and techniques because it cannot be remove by using washing machine alone. Some stains caused by their pee, poo and baby foods are hard to remove and require special treatment.
No matter how small babies’ clothes are, they too need proper clothing care to prevent allergies and skin irritation. Because of babies’ sensitive skin, it is your responsibility to care and to wash their clothes properly. Caring for infant and children’s clothes are similar to adults, but on a smaller scale. There are some detergents and that are not suitable for baby’s skin, thus, parents should select mild detergent containing no added colors or fragrances.
Things to consider in washing baby clothes:
1. Newly purchased baby clothes – Make sure to wash newly bought clothes before you let your baby wear them. Some of them contain irritants and dust which could result to minor skin allergy and irritation when it come in contact with baby’s skin.
2. Special detergents – Not all babies have the same skin. Some of them are sensitive to some types of detergents, while other babies are not that sensitive to detergents used in washing adult clothes. If your baby has sensitive skin, then, make an extra effort to look for extra-gentle laundry detergents which are dye-free and scent-free.
3. Basic stain removal – To remove basic stains caused by milk formula, baby food, vitamins and diaper accidents, you should pre-treat these clothes before washing them. Use a paste-type pretreatment detergent on the fabric and let it sit for a while. You can also put spray-on stain treatment on the affected area.
4. Stubborn stains – There are stains that do not respond to basic stain treatment and require a more aggressive approach. Mothers can remove these stains by putting a mixture of boiling water and paste of pretreatment detergent.
5. Drying – Make it a point to dry clothes outdoor under the heat of the sun than letting them dry inside the house. Clothes dried indoors are hard and stiff, while those dried outdoors are much softer. If you have tumble dryer at home, you can also use them to dry baby clothes.
Precautions:
Before washing or treating any of these baby clothes, be sure not to forget to do zippers and fasteners before machine washing them. Since socks, hats and gloves are too tiny and likely to get lost inside the washing machine. Place them inside the pillowcase and wash them.
