Hi I’m Evelyn Cucchiara from organizewithevelyn.com and the author of the book “30 Days to an Organized Home”. Today I’m here to talk about how to organize your hats. Now hats are seasonal. You don’t wear the same hats in January that you would wear in June. So you need to have storage for two different types of hats. You need to have something that’s accessible for what you need to wear now but also easy to store things you don’t need right now. And it has to be easy to switch them around. You don’t want to be wearing your winter hat in June. So what works for me is this. This is a CD holder. It’s not made for hats. It’s not made for gloves. It’s made for CD’s. But my family uses it to hold hats. The reason being, you have simple easy tilt out shelves like this. And what I do is I take all of our winter hats, it’s winter here, so I take the winter hats and just put them in. One shelf is for the kids hats, one shelf is for the grown ups hats. As you can see we also store gloves in here, double purpose. They fit right in. They’re easy to get in, easy to close. One little nudge, they’re gone but yet, they’re right there when you need them. You might have some other types of hats that are a little bit more structured. This is like a very structured hat. This type of hat’s going to have to go on a shelf somewhere. There’s no way you can push it into a cubby. But not so many people wear this type of hat anymore. So if you do have one just find an empty shelf and put it there. This type of hat, it can go on any sort of a hook anywhere or you can put it right into the cubby also. Now, lets say December’s gone, January’s gone, it’s now June. I need baseball caps. I don’t need my winter hats. Simple, take them all out. I’m going to leave the gloves for now, but you get the idea. I have another cubby stored in exactly the same room. It’s used for seating and for storage. Open it up, here are my baseball caps, take them out, put them right back into the cubby where they need to go, whose ever you need to put in there, close up the cubbies, throw the winter hats right in there. Done. Switching over takes not very long at all and you’re set. You now have your baseball hats that are ready to go when you need them, your winter hats are put away. And that’s it. Just make them where you need them, when you need them and you’ll always have the hat you need to cover your head. Thanks. This is Evelyn from organizingwithevelyn.com. So long.
