People always find handmade jewelry wonderful and appealing and art putting into function. Stores today are stuffed with mass produced items that can be seen on every other people. You fully realize the lack of inspiration and design and something not yet to be quantified. It’s no doubt that most jewelry is cheap and we all have limit for out budget. However, you’ll soon realize there is bound to be something for everyone of all price range if you ever make conversation with those who make jewelry with their own hands. Handmade jewelry that you can afford may as well be a gift to treasure for the time to come.
What does Handmade mean? This question isn’t as easy to answer as you might think, there are many views and opinions and in the end I think it’s up to the consumer to find through comparison, what they want when they say they are looking for handmade. For most folks the broadest definition is just that this is something that has not been mass produced, through the use of machinery. Hands were required to put something together. Hands were required to use the tools. Picture rather a factory that churns out pieces, someone only has to switch it on. That’s what I imagine when we talk about mass produced. Beyond that there are many different types of businesses. Do you want something that was produced by one person, working away in their studio? Do you want a somewhat larger operation where there is one or two designers and then a small workforce bringing those designs to life? Do you want something that is not only handmade but One of a Kind?
But handmade costs more! You would be surprised to find out that there is as large a price range when talking about handmade jewelry as mass produced. Handmade does not mean expensive.
How do I find Handmade Jewelry online? While there are many platforms that allow Artists/Artisans to establish a web presence for free, all you have to know, is what to search for in general. This takes some trial and error and there are millions of websites competing to show up under those searches, whether or not they are actually selling what you are looking for. So this part takes some finesse. One obvious search is for ‘handmade jewelry’, others might include ‘one of a kind jewelry’, ‘handmade accessories’. You can also refine these searches by adding a location, such as your local province/state or city. One more great technique is to try and find niches within the handmade jewelry market. For example, I make Sea Glass Jewelry, so as a fan of this I might search ‘handmade jewelry, sea glass’. Don’t be afraid to add details to your search.
What’s new about Artists/Artisans being online? What’s new is that we aren’t just online, we SELL ONLINE! While folks used to just put up pictures of their work and say where you could find their work locally, now more than ever, you can buy that same work right from the Artist/Artisans website/blog/social network site.
Is it cheaper to buy from the Artist/Artisan? Quite often the simple answer is a big old YES!
The Best Part! When you find your Artist/Artisan online you can now not only see all that they have for sale at your leisure and from the comfort of your home/work, you can also start that all important dialogue. Most folks who make something by hand love talking about it, love making something custom, love putting some detail in an item that is to the customers enjoyment. It’s shopping at it’s very best.
