Not since childhood have I worn mittens. They were bulky, unruly and I couldn’t find an activity I could manage while wearing them. Cold fingers have pushed me to find a pair of mittens that work and I’m happy to report back on the Goat Oven Mitt from Flylow. Finally, an option for adults that’s fun to wear, useful on the slopes, and attractive to the opposite sex.
The problem with mittens is that you can’t do a single thing while wearing them. Many I’ve tried have built in glove liners, which goes against the reason I want to wear them: to keep my fingers next to each other, warm and happy. I wanted the ability to add an interior liner when it’s cold, but didn’t want to be required to have the liner.
Ideally, adding a lightweight liner to wear while I’m touring, then adding the mitten over it for downhill powder turns, we my vision. That dream became a reality when the Goat Oven Mitt arrived on my doorstep. I may have even left work early to open the box.
Goatskin is tough and durable, and I’ve found it still allows me to be dexterous. I can open and close packs, pull zippers and grab my ski poles with no problem. My fingers are warm and happy now and it’ll be rare to find me in anything but these mittens on a cold ski slope.
