Handmade Christmas Decorations

Isn’t it odd how our world has developed? Most recently, we have gloried in our talent to go out and buy all the latest gizmo’s – lights, baubles, strings and feathery snow sprays and loops of tinseled ropes, crisscrossing and making our Christmas decoration glamorous and glitzy. The brilliant amount of variation in all these bright, glossy trinkets which have enlivened our Christmastime decorations over the past few decades during an explosion of possible articles has been mind-blowing. Lighting technology has not only made its way decisively and gloriously into scene designing, but it has virtually revolutionized Christmas. That they made Christmas more festive and more delightful has always been a truism – these were all massive user successes.

But now we face a bit more challenging economic climate as well as – and perhaps more importantly – we face a new era of crafts appreciation. The same explosion has occurred in human creativity!

What’s New And Exciting?

Gifted handmade Christmas decorations have now become another topic, full of an equally-numerous number of innovations and possibilities, far beyond what they once were. This time w get to do some ourselves! Much like the new technologies which have allowed us to produce Halloween Pumpkins which are literally artistic genius, we now face a technology in handmade arts and crafts which can launch us into new and self-defined and designed realms of artisan-ship. Who knew we were so adept and creative?

Working with glass and the easier plastics now gives us virtual stained glass constructions which capture the sun or the lights underneath, hanging on our Christmas Trees and reflecting like the baubles which have motivated humans from our very beginnings. Gem-like, glossy, reflective, we now have the power and the simpler technical aids to make these beautiful decorations all on our own. The beauty, of course, in all this is how we improve with each piece. We become extremely good at what we make and we only get better as we make more.

Different Media

Other media include working with threads, beads, even natural products such as willow branches, dried flowers and their amazing stems, and of course the products of pour painting and drawing, either inset with precious color and reflective gems or simply standing on their own.

The easy reproduction of small pictures, produced from our printers and computers enters us into a realm previously high-priced artisan work and beyond the pale of the normal guys and gals like ourselves.Crafts such as knitting and dealing with yarns of amazing color, items produced of such complexity of form which belong in some Parisian art gallery are seen in farmhouses and the modest homes of our friends and neighbors.

These are truly appealing times for the more creative and resourceful among us.
